TORONTO, August 20, 2016 – Fox Flight Air Ambulance, a Canadian-owned company specializing in international medical repatriation, recently undertook a comprehensive study of the company’s aeromedical patient transfer records. The initiative is being led by Dr. Raymond Kao, medical director of Fox Flight.
“The ultimate goal is to analyze data on every patient transferred by the company in the last 10 years,” says Kao. “We’ll be looking at things like demographic characteristics and administrative and clinical epidemiology, such as the timeline from the job quote to wheels-up to the patient and repatriation, the condition of each patient at the beginning and completion of the transfer, in-flight procedures followed by the medical staff and any problems encountered during the transfer.” Read More
TORONTO, May 20, 2016 – Fox Flight Air Ambulance, a Canadian-owned company specializing in international medical repatriation, has been certified by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) as an authorized third-country Commercial Air Operator, or CAO. This authorization confirms that Fox Flight is in compliance with all EASA safety and procedural requirements and is therefore entitled to apply for individual operating permits to perform commercial air operations into, within or out of EASA’s 32 member states.
“Achieving EASA authorization further validates our ongoing efforts to maintain the highest standards of flight safety, operations and maintenance,” said David Fox, president of Fox Flight. “From a certification standpoint, EASA authorization is essential for our business because we fly into and out of Europe several times each week performing medical repatriation services for our clients, and this specific authorization will become mandatory for all third-country operators beginning this fall.” Read More
(Toronto, April 13, 2016) – Multiple news crews were waiting for Fox Flight’s Lear-35 air ambulance when it touched down at Toronto’s Lester B. Pearson International Airport just after 10:00 p.m. on April 12, returning from Trinidad. The successful patient transfer marked the end of a harrowing two-week ordeal for Toronto’s Elissa Antonio that sparked a massive online fundraising campaign and attracted intense local media attention.
Antonio was on holiday visiting relatives on the Caribbean island on March 28 when the unthinkable happened. While wandering at night through the brush in search of firewood for a bonfire, Antonio plunged over the edge of a 12-metre (40-foot) cliff to the beach below. Although the 40-year-old mother of two was lucky to be alive, she sustained severe injuries in the fall, including a fractured pelvis, a broken ankle and a fracture sacrum, which is the bone that connects the spine to the pelvis. Antonio was immediately taken to a local hospital where doctors determined that she needed surgery, but the small facility was not equipped to address her most serious injuries. To make matters worse, Antonio had opted not to purchase travel insurance prior to her trip, meaning she would be stranded in Trinidad until funds could be raised for an emergency medical evacuation back to Canada.
