(Toronto, February 2, 2016) – Asia Air Ambulance, a Bangkok-based affiliate of Fox Flight Inc., a Canadian-owned company specializing in international medical repatriation services, recently appointed Dr. Atchariya Pangma to the honorary position of Associate Medical Director.
Dr. Pangma has more than two decades of experience in service development, service provision, education and policy development in emergency and crisis medicine and has been personally involved in more than 200 air ambulance and 1,000 ground ambulance cases in his career. Working in an honorary advisory capacity, Dr. Pangma will provide input on all aspects of medical staff education and training related to patient care for Asia Air Ambulance with the goal of maintaining the company’s global accreditation standards.
“We are pleased and honoured to have a physician with Dr. Pangma’s depth of experience advising our Asia Air team,” said David Fox, president of Fox Flight. “It is challenging enough managing critical care patients in a hospital setting, but it is doubly challenging in the air transport environment. That is what we do every day, and have done for the better part of two decades. Dr. Pangma brings a detailed knowledge of aeromedical practices that will only enhance the world-class standard of care we offer our Asia Air clients.”
“I am delighted to be advising a medical repatriation services company that has been accredited by the most respected standards agencies in the global aeromedical industry,” said Dr. Pangma. “I look forward to applying my experience and expertise to help Asia Air Ambulance set the gold standard in patient care and service throughout Asia.”
Born in Thailand, Dr. Pangma received his MD from Srinakharinwirot University-Bangkok in 1994. Upon graduation, Dr. Pangma entered the Royal Thai Air Force where he served for several years as a GP and Flight Surgeon and received specialized training in Aviation Medicine. After leaving the Air Force, Dr. Pangma went on to serve as Chief of ED and an OPD Physician at Rangsit Hospital and as an Emergency Air/Ground Medical Transport Physician at Bangkok Hospital. Most recently Dr. Pangma served as Senior Flight Director at Bangkok Hospital and throughout his career he has been actively involved in providing emergency medical training for doctors, nurses and EMTs.
As a director of the National Institute for Emergency Medicine, Dr. Pangma played a key role in the development and implementation of aeromedical services in Thailand and contributed to the development of national policies related to emergency medical services. He has also been active in the development of a Bachelors program in Emergency Paramedicine, the first of its kind in Thailand. He is a member of the Thai Society of Critical Care Medicine, the Thai Association for Emergency Medicine, the Aviation Medicine Association of Thailand and the Air Medical Physician Association (USA).
