(Toronto, January 1, 2016) – Fox Flight Air Ambulance, a Canadian company specializing in international medical repatriation, recently relocated its Toronto headquarters to an expanded, custom-built office space. In addition, the company also recently completed an extensive renovation and reorganization of its dedicated hangar facilities at Lester B. Pearson International Airport. The upgraded facilities are the end result of a year-long initiative designed to allow Fox Flight to more efficiently meet current demand for its repatriation services and to better position the company for future growth.

“We have seen significant growth in the demand for international medical evacuations in the last two years, and it is imperative that our facilities keep pace with that demand,” said David Fox, president and founder of Fox Flight. “Over the course of 18 years in this business, we have developed very effective systems in terms of head office, medical and flight operations, and these upgraded facilities will allow us to maximize the efficiency of these systems as the volume of our business increases.”

In January 2015, Fox Flight’s management committee determined that a reorganization of the company’s operations was required to meet increased flight volume, and that that reorganization should include upgraded office and hangar facilities. An outside consultant was brought in to evaluate each aspect of the operation and make recommendations to improve workflow with relation to administrative, dispatch, medical, flight and maintenance staff. A series of recommendations were adopted by the committee in July and an implementation plan, timeline and budget were put in place.

The first phase of the facilities aspect of the reorganization plan got underway in September with a comprehensive redesign and renovation of the company’s hangar facilities. One of the main organizational changes made at the hangar was the installation of four dedicated work stations–two for maintenance staff, one for pilots and one for medical staff. All supplies at each station are clearly labeled and inventoried, making it easier for flight staff to prepare pre-flight and to complete post-flight documentation. According to staff reports, workflow at the hangar has been much more efficient since the reorganization.

The second phase of the facilities reorganization got underway in October, with the customized renovation of office space located, with easy highway access to the airport, at 200 Evans Avenue in Toronto’s west end. Fox Flight’s new headquarters is larger and designed to be more efficient for meetings, file storage and daily operations. The office features segregated, fully secure areas for administration, dispatch and medical flight prep and supply storage. In addition, the offices of the Chief Pilot and Director of Operations are now located in the main office, allowing for improved internal communications.

“The reorganization process and the new facilities have already had an impact on the workflow of our whole operation,” said Fox. “Once the staff fully understood the purpose of the initiative, everyone bought in and worked together to make the transition as seamless as possible. Now that the process is complete, they can all see and feel the improvements in every aspect of the business.”

Fox Flight monitors departure times through its Flight Captain’s Report as a quality indicator. Since the organizational changes were implemented, Fox says the company has experienced a 20% improvement in on-time departures. This, in turn, has allowed dispatch to improve scheduling and create room for additional flights.
